In this lesson we learned how to properly evaluate maps on not only their appearance but also many other important factors. How well they describe themselves like their symbology and how well the subtitles/titles are related. This taught us many useful skills on properly developing maps and how this can be viewed by others. Without the proper usage of the map design principles then having an effective map would be hard. This allows the maps to be fully complete and maximize the maps potential. Because of all these techniques it allows any user to piece together their maps, In future terms of cartography I can carry these techniques into the future to ensure that all of my maps can be complete and to ensure they fulfill their upmost potential.

In the Easter Island map there is a complete balance between the symbology, titles and for the overall structure of the map. While it does remain fairly simple it also maximizes the maps potential. All of the symbols are practical and easy to identify on the map as well. The legend and the scale are also appropriate for the map. This map exemplifies all of the map principles.

The map describing the watershed is another simple but effective map. The map appeals to all of the needed elements. The legend and scale are effectively used in the map. It also has appropriate titles and effectively describes the elements being used. All of the symbology used is useful on the map and still keeps the map simple enough to read without much help. All of these add up to this map also properly using the map design principles and makes it an effective map.
While this Iraq map does use a bunch of the normal map elements like having a scale or using a legend. This map falls short on a couple of things like two of the countries having the color green for the added help of describing the different areas being controlled by the different groups is a bit confusing. Having such a similar color can be a bit confusing while also just giving the map a offset look. This map also falls short on the description of things considering it doesn't use any subtitles or anything else to help explain the map. This map fails on a couple of the map design principles.

This map describing capital population fails on numerous elements that a map should have. While it does have a legend it is a very hard to understand one which doesn't really read well on the map. It also doesn't have any scale (while it doesn't exactly need one except to measure the US). There is no subtitles to help explain the map and it just overall is very bland. While looking at it you may be able to get some view of what is going on for this map it is still pretty incomplete. This map fails on plenty of the map design principles which cause it to overall fail.
