Cartography Lab

This week's lab was quite a bit more extensive than the last week and required much more intricate work on the map makers behalf. I myself had a bit of difficulty with some of the functions in the ArcGISPro and in detailing the map with all the correct functions. Eventually I was able to persevere and create a finished product map though. In it shows a map of Escambia county and the surrounding area (with topographic view on the surrounding area). I included a starred spot for the UWF main campus on the map in relation to both Ferry Pass and Pensacola being marked with a black dot. I outlined the interstate with a red line and the rivers with a blue line. All of Escambia county is marked in a light gray color. That combined with a north arrow, legend, a smaller square with the entire state in it with a scale, a bottom scale for the main part of the map and even a logo to let the reader know it represents UWF. All of this creates a very detail oriented map for any reader to decipher from. The actual lab itself consisted of much more than just creating the map itself though. We had to start with making individual maps for both Florida overview and the UWf campus location, Once imported in files to properly add in necessary elements (rivers, cities, etc). We had to eliminate all of the extra cities to only include the two we wanted. We had to create a layout view importing both maps and then minimizing Florida overview and putting it into the top right hand corner as a reference to the state but with Escambia county being the primary map to reference too. There were quite a bit of things I had to do in between all of this with many command functions  just to accomplish smaller tasks like creating text boxes and so forth. When one step wouldn't work right it could slow me down for 30 minutes to an hour at a time so effectively carrying out all commands to the letter was a necessity. Everything else from changing the colors of things to adding in the legends and scales weren't hard at all. With buttoms already assigned for these things it was as easy as clicking it and getting the proper numbers that I required. While this week was much more difficult than the last when it was done it was very rewarding and seeing the finished product felt really good. I can only look forward to whatever may come next!
