GIS Blog Post #3: Mid-Semester Check in and LinkedIn Profile

So far my internship has been going great! I really feel like it has been building on not only an academic skill that I have been learning for the last couple years. But also a brand new skill in identifying and treating invasives plants that I have been learning for the past couple months. The industry I am working in is Conservation and the organization is the Florida Conservation Corps. We are subbed in through the Florida Park Service to treat invasive plants in their parks in a attempt to showcase "the real Florida". The GIS portion has helped tremendously because most of our stuff has to be done with GPS for optimal scouting and relocating of past treatment spots. While we have had  slight setback recently we are going to be fully going into mapping/surveying in the coming weeks. I have made some tremendous progress in the understanding of how to use the new mapping app Avenza that is being utilized by the State Park Service as well as State Forestry and USGS (for a couple examples). This is something I was unfamiliar with so learning how to use this will be key into meeting our goals. I look forward to moving forward and having more updates/maps on this soon. But right now it's still a bit too early on.

Creating my LinkedIn profile was actually pretty fun. I have always wanted to make one before and I got rid of all other social media recently so I think this will be a nice addition. It will allow me to have a social media again but in a professional manner that allows me to further network and pursue my professional career goals. I have only done the bare bones on it currently with my most up to date knowledge. I plan on adding to it in the future to utilize more skills I haven't polished off in a while as well as more recent hobbies and goals I plan to pursue in the future.

All of this has been so much fun so far! I really feel like I have not only moved forward in the academic side with using this internship to finish my class but also in the professional world where my internship is playing an integral part of my future in the Park Service. I look forward to everything that comes next!
